Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] today introduced the Congressional Pay for Performance Act of 2017 (H.R. 2153). This bipartisan legislation would withhold pay from members of Congress should they fail to pass a budget resolution by May 15th and appropriations bills by July 31st.
"The law requires us to pass a budget and fund the government through regular appropriations bills, something Congress has only done a few times in the last 40 years," said Congressman Rothfus. "We find ourselves governing by crisis. This chaos needs to end, and this legislation will go a long way toward making Congress do its job."
Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema [D-AZ], Congressman Jim Cooper [D-TN], and Congressman Dave Loebsack [D-IA] are original cosponsors.
